This area of the site covers letters sent to and / or from Banks for the period from May 1840 until the end of the Century.  I have also included other where the content makes reference to a Bank or to Banking.

The year of 1840 is of no great relevance to Banking although May 1840 sees the introduction  of the Penny Black Postage stamp with this leading to major reforms within the Postal System.

18th September 1840 - Wm. Drummond, Cupar to Wm. Sheppard, Edinburgh - refers to Clydesdale Bank Interest Rates.

10th July 1844 - James Thomson, Cashier, Greenock Bank to James Macdonald, Inverary - sent after sale of Greenock Bank.
